Mixed into a world controlled by ones weight, looks and style. Led forth by MTV, various gossip columns, GQ, and yet set apart by Canali Milano suits, Bill Blass shirts, Missoni Uomo coats. Girlfriends dressed in Ralph Lauren with Angela Cummings silk scarfs, Manolo Blahnik d’Orsay pumps and suede gloves by Gloria Jose. Where Visa and Mastercard rule the lives of so many, you can ask a bum now-a-days if they take Am Ex. When renting a “Volvo” just isn’t an option and the new form of fun is dinner at Da Silvano at a great table somewhere in front, with your car parked right out front on 6th Avenue. Welcome to the days where the health club you go to is so exclusive (this derived from the fact that the club is actually called Xclusive) that the membership alone runs close to five thousand dollars annually, but you do however get to use a gym designed by J.J. Vogel, who designed the new Norma Prager club and figured a café with a juice bar, a sun deck and tanning booths were essential to ones work-out. [sarcasm noted?] The car you drive is no longer a form of transportation, as it has turned into more of an accessory then anything else. In fact, so has just about everything/everyone else. The level of shallowness isn’t even noticed, but then again if everyone else is the same way, are you really shallow? This could just be the new “norm”. Sad .. I guess, and yet somewhere in the middle of this is where I am: Mike, even though now-a-days your name matters just about as much as what you ate yesterday. Your 9-5, your car, your outfit, your hate, your passion. Name yourself, what are YOU all about?
